But CNN.com also has a separate URL for mobile device viewers, M.CNN.com, that looks like this:

You will notice that while the actual data remains the same, while images and design elements have been removed or changed.

While we are working on the mobile functionality for CartGenie sites (expected release in 2012), you can help your customers view your site on their mobile device right now. There are a few sites that will convert a site in to a mobile version (such as Google Mobilizer: http://www.google.com/gwt/n ). You simply type in the URL and the site is converted to a mobile device version.

You could then either create a link on your site that mobile viewers could click on to view the mobile version of your site using the URL provided by the converter. Your customers that regularly visit your site on their mobile device could then save the mobile site URL to their favorites for faster connection.

For example, when using Google Mobilizer, the URL that is returned is:

http://www.google.com/gwt/x?u=http%3A%2F%2Fcartgenie.com&btnGo=Go&source=wax&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

If you take this URL and make it the address of a link on your site, your customers can view your site in the mobile version. For example:

View On My Phone

Seth Godin, marketing wizard extraordinaire, has a great post at his blog today. He says sell your product to the group of people to whom it makes sense — don’t try to sell nuts to dolphins:

Worldview is a term popularized by George Lakoff. It’s the set of expectations and biases that color the way each of us see the world (before the marketer ever arrives on the scene)…

Worldview changes three things: attention, bias and vernacular. Attention, because we choose to pay attention to those things that we’ve decided matter. Bias, because our worldview alters the way we filter and interpret what we hear. And vernacular, because words and images resonate with people differently based on their worldview.

The whole thing is worth a read. Check it out at Seth’s Blog: Selling nuts to squirrels.

One of the great features of the CartGenie storefront is the built-in search functionality. Right “out of the box,” CartGenie allows your customers to search for items from any page of your storefront.

Your customers can also select “Advanced Search” and limit their search by brand and/or category. When your customer searches, CartGenie looks in the product name, category, subcategory, and even the item description and features to find relevant results. But did you know CartGenie also searches the meta keywords field?

This one, right here.

This allows you to help your customer by improving their search results. For example, say shoppers on our demo storefront www.CartGenie.com are having a hard time finding the CatEye EL-200 bike light we “sell.” Right now if we go to CartGenie.com and search “bike light” we get no search results.

Sad panda.

However, if we know that our customers are searching for “bike light,” we can go into CartGenie Desktop Engine and enter this phrase into the meta keywords field. We might also add other phrases our customers might use:

Click "Add/Update" to save changes.

Now, when we go back to CartGenie.com and search “bike light,” look at what happens:

Success! You can implement this tip on any product your customers are having trouble finding.
